Ever since 2004 through the Harmony program, MLI has been conducting Christian educational activities at the Juvenile Education Center in Buziaş  at which the minors participate voluntarily. The fruits of these activities could be seen DSC02579_800x600over the years by the impressive reduced degree of recidivism among the young people from Buziaş. Unfortunately, in the last three years, we noticed an increase in the number of young people who, once released and returned in the environment of origin, would relapse relatively quickly. Analyzing with our partners the causes for relapse, the main reason was the lack of a support and example from the family and the community of origin. Lack of an example, simpler said, lack of a “big brother”. MLI initiated in 2016 a new project that aims to facilitate a national Christian Mentoring Network which would locally offer these young people the support they need once they return home. In the first half of 2016 MLI drafted a support manual for the volunteers involved in the network.

On July 15th, 2016 at Buziaş we had a first meeting of the regional coordinators, representatives from CEM Buzias and MLI representatives, and also a meeting of familiarization between local coordinators and the youth will be released in the next 6 months.

In the first phase of the project MLI will organize four training sessions for prospective volunteer mentors from the South, Center and West of the country (areas with a higher number of delinquents) and four meetings of familiarization.
