For six months, Daniel Reid—a member of the Serve Youth organization from Northern Ireland—was a quiet yet energetic presence at Deborah House. He came with the desire to volunteer and participate in a meaningful way in our activities. He spent his days moving between physical work, nature, and people—bringing skill, joy, and diligence wherever he went.
A large part of his time was dedicated to caring for the greenhouses and outdoor spaces. Among other things, he tended to the plants—tomatoes, peppers, eggplants—and, after the harvest, prepared the soil for a new cycle of growth. His attention to detail also showed in the landscaping of the rose garden at Deborah House 2, adding a touch of order and beauty to the place.
Daniel didn’t stop at gardening. He repaired cabinets, mowed the lawn, painted, maintained flowerbeds and the orchard, and whenever needed, offered a helping hand with various repair and maintenance projects, being of help for the social father. His colleagues describe him as hardworking, calm, trustworthy, and always ready to help.
Daniel’s time at Deborah House meant physical work, commitment, and generosity. Through everything he did, he helped create a more beautiful, cleaner, and warmer environment for the girls.
“I really appreciated the variety of my role, especially the practical work at Deborah House, where no two days were the same. The different projects and the teams that visited during the summer made the work both meaningful and motivating. Some of my favorite moments include renovating the rooms at Deborah House 2, working in the orchard, and all the small tasks in between.
Living in Romania was a true adventure—similar to Northern Ireland in some ways, yet full of new experiences such as driving on the other side of the road, learning a new language, and discovering many kinds of food. I was also grateful for the opportunities to serve at Betania Church in Timisoara, whether in children’s ministry, practical tasks, or through prayer encouragement.
In my free time, I enjoyed cycling alongside young people from various churches in the city and even took part in the Timisoara Triathlon. I am deeply grateful to my home church, Saintfield Baptist, for their practical support and especially for their prayers, as well as to the members of Betania Baptist Church in Timisoara, who welcomed me so warmly. I am grateful for Missio Link International (MLI) and the opportunity to serve—especially at Deborah House. I don’t yet know what comes next, but I will look back on this time with gratitude and continue to pray for your ministry.”
