A Cycling Journey with a Purpose
Some sporting events remain personal challenges. Others become stories of people, community, and hope. This cycling tour belongs to the latter.
Over the years, Ends of the Earth Cycling (EEC), our partners from the United States, have shown how sport can become a catalyst for hope and support for young people around the world. This journey is about more than the miles we ride; it is about the impact those miles can have on the lives of others.
In 2021, EEC organized a cycling tour to benefit the children and youth involved in the SPeR programs. At the time, pandemic restrictions forced us to cancel our participation. Even so, the project moved forward and proved that meaningful initiatives cannot be stopped by difficult circumstances.
This year, from June 12–17, we once again have the privilege of representing Missio Link International on a cycling tour, this time in Quebec, Canada. Together, we will ride approximately 250 miles. Yet more important than the distance itself is the purpose behind it: raising awareness and support for young people from vulnerable backgrounds.
The funds raised through this project will support children and youth facing difficult circumstances—victims of abuse, neglect, and exploitation; young people deprived of liberty; and those growing up in fragile family environments marked by poverty and the risk of dropping out of school.
These young people include students from the Recaș area, youth supported through the Buziaș Educational Center, and teenagers who have the opportunity to attend our camps in Păltiniș, Sibiu County. Through the programs of MLI Foundation, they receive more than practical support. They find hope, healing, encouragement, and the chance for a better future.
Riding alongside us will be Chris Duncan, a partner and friend from Missio International, USA. Projects like this gain their significance not only from the cause they serve, but also from the people who choose to carry that cause forward together.
For me, the beauty of a cycling journey is found not only in the effort or the distance, but in the team—the people who share the road, face the challenges together, and celebrate the joy of moving forward.
